With summer right around the corner, we’re diving right into the sweetest things in life!

This week, we stepped into our SoMa bake kitchen to highlight some goodies in the making.

Let us introduce “The Cake Ladies”!

These dedicated women are the sugar plum fairies of our operation. 

Just as the perfect cake is built layer by layer, so it is in our kitchen. Communication is key to all our processes — as detailed as the recipes themselves! If one ingredient goes missing, the whole batch goes to waste. It takes a village, a little bit of science, and a pinch of love!

As we snuck through the prep tables to snag a few pictures, the buttery sweetness of the frosting wafted through the air — it was all we could do to keep from dipping our finger in the bowl for a taste!  On this particular day, the kitchen was prepping strawberry and lemon frosting for two of our popular summer cakes. 

One of the main ingredients in buttercream frosting is, of course, butter!  And many of our customers ask, “How do you make your icing taste so rich and creamy!?”

Well…not all butters are created equally!

When it comes to our baked goods, we use Plugrá European style butter, which makes precision baking consistent and scrumptious. It’s what makes our cakes rise higher and our croissants flake to perfection. (It’s also what keeps you awake at night when you know there’s an extra Boulevard cookie sitting on your kitchen counter!)

Taste it alongside regular table butter, and you will immediately know the difference. It blends and bends into the recipes with ease — and just makes your mouth water. 

Our cookies are crafted with the same love and quality. The bake staff were also busy dropping the daily cookie dough onto prep sheets prior to baking. Here you see our snickerdoodles and M&M chocolate chip…we fancy a big, generous scoop for a healthy-sized cookie!

Our recipes are crafted for the perfect “soft in the center, crisp around the edges” cookie. Make sure to show up early for your favorite, because many days we sell out by the lunch hour! They are delectable alongside (or dipped into) a cup of coffee.
